Preparation for breast augmentation surgery begins with a consultation. During the appointment, the patient meets with Dr. Mordkovich to discuss their goals for surgery, review medical history, have a breast exam, and learn about different implant options to choose the right size and type. Dr. Mordkovich is very attentive and considerate. He takes the time to deeply understand the patient’s needs and expectations. Using our 3D plastic surgery simulation software by Crisalix®, he shows each person the potential results they can achieve based on their anatomy and aesthetic goals.
After agreeing on all specifics, Dr. Mordkovich gives pre-operative instructions to help patients prepare for breast augmentation. Here are some of the tips:
Arrange transportation home for the day of surgery
Stock up on recovery supplies, such as ice packs, pillows, and comfortable clothing
Make arrangements for help with daily tasks during the initial recovery period
Stop smoking for a month before and after surgery
Take time off work or school to allow for proper rest and healing
Set up a comfortable recovery area at home with items within easy reach
Fill prescriptions for post-operative medications
Arrange childcare help during the recovery period if needed
Dr. Modkovich performs breast surgeries under local anesthesia without sedation to keep the patient awake and comfortable. We inject lidocaine or other local anesthetic to numb the treated area. It blocks pain signals during the operation while allowing the patient to remain conscious.
Dr. Mordkovich uses one of the three incision techniques based on the patient’s anatomy and goals:
Inframammary: an opening is made underneath the breast in the fold. This allows direct access to create the implant pocket.
Periareolar: an incision is placed along the edge of the areola. This technique provides greater control over implant positioning. The scars are almost invisible because they are hidden in the pigmented area of the areola.
The implant pocket is created above or below the pectoral muscle. The subglandular technique positions the pocket between the breast tissue and the muscle, which provides more upper breast fullness. The submuscular method puts the pocket underneath the pectoral muscle so the edges of the implant are less visible.
In recent years, advancements in technology and surgical techniques have made breast augmentation an increasingly safe and effective treatment. Potential benefits of this cosmetic surgery include:
