Blepharoplasty
REVERSE AGING AND MAKE YOUR EYES LOOK YOUNGER WITH EYELID SURGERY.
The eyes are often the first area of the face where the aging process starts to take its toll, making you look worn and tired even when you’ve had a good night’s sleep. Above the eyes, skin laxity creates sagging in the eyelids that may limit your field of vision and cause uncomfortably dry eyes. Underneath the eyes, puffiness and fine lines may further exacerbate your weary appearance

WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY?

At Cross Hudson Plastic Surgery, we offer a surgical procedure called blepharoplasty to address eyelid concerns and reawaken the eyes. With the ability to adapt this treatment to your unique needs and desired results, we can produce a look that is distinctly you, only refreshed and more youthful. Enhancing the area around the eyes can have a profound impact on your appearance overall, boosting your confidence and making you look as energetic and young as you feel.

Excess skin tissue, or redundant skin, is completely safe to remove from around the eyes. Lower Lid Blepharoplasty is a simple outpatient procedure that performed in our office.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT EYELID SURGERY

Blepharoplasty refreshes the eyes by removing loose skin and repositioning underlying fat and muscle tissue to create a smoother contour to the lid. This excess skin tissue, which we call redundant skin, is completely safe to remove from the areas around the eyes. Blepharoplasty offers dramatic, long-lasting results when performed alone. It can also be combined with other procedures, such as a forehead lift or facelift, to enhance your appearance further. Dr. Mordkovich will share the benefits unique to you during your private consultation.

If you are considering a blepharoplasty procedure on one or both eyelids, we recommend adding a treatment of Botox or Dysport to diminish the fine lines around the eyes that might not be satisfactorily addressed with surgery. Dermal fillers can also be used to fill in the tear trough area and further reduce the appearance of dark circles. At Cross Hudson, we look for dynamic rejuvenation solutions that are maintainable and that enhance the natural appeal of your unique appearance.
The blepharoplasty procedure is done as an outpatient procedure and only requires local anesthesia injected into the skin and muscle around the eyes. Local numbing is much safer for you than general anesthesia and can allow you to heal more quickly after your surgery. As the upper eyelids have natural creases within the skin, incisions are tucked into these lines. Incisions for the lower lid are carefully hidden within the lash line.

Dr. Mordkovich removes the extra, loose skin and protruding fat cells while tightening the muscles to produce a smoother surface to the lid. Once the interior of the eyelid is appropriately restructured, he will close the incisions with dissolvable sutures.
Dr. Mordkovich will provide a list of instructions on how to manage swelling at home after your surgery, such as the application of cold compresses to the eye area. Your eyes will also feel sensitive after the procedure, so oral pain medication will be prescribed to keep you comfortable for the first few days. In addition, Dr. Mordkovich will provide or recommend an ointment to apply to the incision to keep it moist and help it heal well. Recovery from blepharoplasty takes anywhere from two days to two weeks, depending on the amount of correction that was completed.
The skin surrounding the eyes is both delicate and thin, making it vulnerable to damage much earlier than other areas of the face. Time and sun damage lead to the depletion of collagen, an important protein responsible for supporting the dermal structure and giving skin a smooth, supple appearance. As collagen levels decrease, the skin becomes thinner and looser. This process can lead to sagging both above and below the eyes, creating the fatigued appearance.
Rubbing your eyes or using too much force when you apply makeup or skin products can also wear down the muscle layers around the eye socket. This, combined with the thinning of the skin allows the fatty deposits to become more prominent underneath the eye, which contributes to the puffy look often associated with lack of sleep or aging. Blood vessels below also become more noticeable, giving you dark circles under the eyes in addition to the puffiness.
