Awake Anesthesia

Dr. Mordkovich uses local anesthesia to make the patient comfortable and avoid any pain. This means that the patient remains fully conscious and alert throughout the procedure. Awake anesthesia helps us prevent complications and reduce recovery time.
Dr. Mordkovich makes an anchor incision around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and along the crease. This incision pattern provides ample access for the surgeon to reduce breast size.
Dr. Mordkovich removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The remaining tissue is reshaped. The nipple and areola are repositioned higher on the breast, making it look more aesthetically pleasing.
If necessary, Dr. Mordkovich may reduce the areola size to create a more natural, proportional appearance. This is done by cutting away a circular piece of excess tissue from the outer edge of the areola.
Finally, the incisions are closed with layered sutures, surgical tape, or skin adhesives. Temporary drainage tubes may also be inserted under the breasts to prevent fluid buildup during the initial recovery.

Recovery from awake breast reduction surgery typically takes several weeks. Immediately after the operation, patients wear an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling and promote healing.
