Face Lift

It often happens long before you expect it or you’re ready for it. Changes to your appearance over time, due to sun exposure, environmental factors, and even the passage of time, can make you look much older than you feel. Creases and lines develop around the forehead, nose, and mouth, while skin laxity creates cheek hollows and jowls along the jawline. This is no longer the face of your youth staring back at you in the mirror. Fortunately, there are ways to address these telltale symptoms of aging and turn back the clock on your reflection.

Just because you’re no longer in your early 30s doesn’t mean you can’t look it. A rhytidectomy or facelift is the solution you’ll find most efficient in smoothing thinning skin, lifting weakened muscle supports, and addressing shifting of facial fat. For early signs of aging, Dr. Mordkovich does recommend and use nonsurgical anti-aging treatments, such as Ultherapy, laser skin rejuvenation, and injectables to prolong your youthful appearance. However, when these procedures no longer provide the results you are looking for, a facelift may be the next step.

A facelift is a surgical procedure that reverses sigs of aging on your appearance by about 10 to 15 years, providing the following benefits:

    Erase wrinkles
    Lift loose, sagging skin
Reposition fallen fatty tissue and muscle
    Restore natural contours
    Remove excess skin
    Eliminate jowls
Smooth away nasolabial folds and marionette lines

As you explore your options for a surgical facelift, it’s to your benefit that you choose a surgeon with the artistic talent and technical skills to produce the results you want. The general misconception around facelifts are that you’ll look overdone and unnatural, but at Cross Hudson, our facelift procedure focuses on the exact opposite. Our goal is to provide you with an outcome that is a more youthful and vibrant version of your current self. Natural, beautiful and long-lasting are what you can expect from your facelift at Cross Hudson Plastic Surgery.

Many variables contribute to the aging process. One of the biggest is the depletion of collagen and elastin, which occurs naturally over time. These proteins provide essential support to the dermal structure, helping skin maintain its suppleness and elasticity. As elastin and collagen levels diminish, the skin begins to lose its flexibility and firmness. This leads to skin laxity and the formation of wrinkles.
While our bodies normally produce less collagen and elastin as we get older, other factors accelerate the depletion as well. Two primary culprits in early aging include sun exposure and cigarette smoke. Your genes also play a rolein how fast your skin ages, so you can look to your parents for clues about when you might start to see noticeable changes take place.

While a full facelift will provide the most dramatic results, many patients have just one section of the face that needs lifting and restructuring. In these situations, we may recommend a mini-lift to correct the problem with shorter incisions and less downtime. To assess the type of procedure that will work the best for you, we divide the face into three divisions:

Upper face, consisting of the forehead, brow line, and upper eyelids.

Mid-face, focusing on the cheeks, nose and lower eyelid.s

Lower face, which focuses mostly on jowls in the lower face and contours of the jawline, may include the neck as well.

Dr. Mordkovich will offer you options for a facelift according to your specific needs, tailoring your surgery to the precise correction required for you. He may also recommend a combination of a facelift and neck lift, or the addition of nonsurgical treatments like laser resurfacing or injectables to put the finishing touches on your refreshed appearance.

A facelift is usually performed using general anesthesia, but mini-lifts may only require local anesthesia for some patients. The surgery typically takes two to four hours to complete. Dr. Mordkovich will place incisions around the ear in the natural folds of the skin or within the hairline to minimize visible scarring afterward. Through the incisions, he will reposition muscle and tissue to restore definition to the facial profile. He will also trim away excess, loose skin to smooth away wrinkles and create a firmer appearance.
The recovery time following a facelift is about 14 days. During this period, you are likely to experience some swelling and discomfort, which we will help you manage with oral medication, elevation of the head, and cold compresses. The more you can rest and relax during that recovery time; the quicker and more successful your healing process will be. Should you need anything during your recovery, our staff is always here for you, and Dr. Mordkovich is happy to answer any and all questions.
The results of a facelift can last for many years. However, over time, the signs of aging will slowly return, and you can schedule a subsequent treatment or surgery to maintain your more youthful appearance.
